SquareUp "If the default currency is different from the currency of the payment gateway, select from the available options."

I have some errors in my SquareUp logs about failed transactions "This merchant can only process payments in GBP, but amount was provided in USD." I'm trying to use SquareUp with the standalone AliDropship plugin, as payment method.

Is this somehow related, or can it be fixed by the "If the default currency is different from the currency of the payment gateway, select from the available options." option in the SquareUp settings? Does it need to be GBP?
